you may write for any ensemble you wish as long as it encompasses one full instrument choir. Ie the smallest configuration would be either:

1. Full string ensemble,
2. Full wind ensemble,
3. Full brass ensemble or
4. Full percussion ensemble.
5. Full symphony orchestra with 16 1st violins winds and brass in 3s.

If you write on 5 Staves or less, your written submission must be in pdf form and must have a complete analysis including all motive, phrase, period, Part and Song Form and/or Sectional Form annotations. In addition you must clearly label all your syntactic usages according to their respective letter designations. If you write on more than 5 staves, you must submit two pdfs: 1) a pdf of your short score with a complete analysis including all motive, phrase, period, Part and Song Form and/or Sectional Form annotations. In addition you must clearly label all your syntactic usages according to their respective letter designations on the short score. 2) a pdf of the full orchestration. This need not contain any annotations. You will be graded strictly on your writing ability NOT on your orchestration. However, if you are so dedicated to write a full orchestration, I will make careful comments and give you serious feedback on the orchestration and you will have my sincere respect for taking the challenge.

If you are currently in or have completed HMU 415

you need not follow any syntactic usages. You are free to write as inspired. However, you must annotate your theoretical construct clearly

If you are currently in or have completed HMU 304

YOU MAY (but dont have to) COMBINE THIS FINAL WITH THE HMU 304 FINAL.

The combined final exam may be found here: http://personal.stevens.edu/~abrick/theory4/theory4_files/theory4_comp_final_pt1.pdf

The final submission date will be the later of the two posted final exams.

The combined HMU 304/HMU 310 Final Exam will receive 2 grades.  The grade for the theory portion of the exam will be completely independent of the grade for the  composition portion of the exam. A poor theory 4 exam does not exclude the possibility of a very strong composition exam and visa versa.

30% of your grade for each portion of the exam will be based on how well you succesfully meet the milestone deadlines

70% of your grad efor each portion of the exam will be based on how well you implement that which is required in the exam.
