ME 225A/B ¨C Spring 2009 - Dynamics           Term Project

            Guidelines

1.      Students in class will be assembled in teams of 4 students each.

2.      Term project topic is chosen by each team from a real-life dynamical system. It can be related to sports, machinery, toys, engineering systems, etc. Problems and design projects in the textbook may be used for ideas (e.g. pp. 161, 211, 285, 380, and 441).

3.      Project work is to include multiple applications of kinematic and kinetic theories studied in class, and is to contain modeling, analysis, and discussion of results.

4.      Real numbers are to be used for all calculations and final results. Reasonable estimates and/or assumptions may be made (and documented) for input data, as required.

5.      A team leader for each team is to be elected, who will coordinate team communications, meetings, work divisions, schedule, progress, and submittals.

6.      All team members (including the leader) are to participate approximately equally, and do approximately the same amount of analytical work for the project. Team members may be asked about the relative participation level of each person.

7.      Project deliverables include:

a.       Brief written report, about 3 or 4 pages in length. Report may be typed, very neatly hand-written, or a combination.

b.      Brief oral presentation, with pre-prepared overheads, slides, or charts. Presentation for each team is to be a maximum of 8 minutes long, with all members participating.

Due Dates

1.      Submit one or two paragraphs describing the selected project.
