Dr. EH Yang - Professional Experience at JPL (1999 - 2006)

Dr. Yang was a Senior Member of Engineering Staff and Principal Investigator at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), California Institute of Technology. His major accomplishments and activities at JPL are listed below:

-            Obtained major research contracts exceeding a total of $4M, representing both an exceptional achievement and high productivity not only within JPL, but in NASA as a whole.

-            Initiated research on the MEMS-based actuator thrust and responsible for obtaining external federal funding from National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), and demonstrated a robust linear actuation mechanism for the NRO-sponsored program

-            Led MEMS-based adaptive optics projects, and was responsible for obtaining external federal funding from Center for Adaptive Optics and DARPA/LASSO to develop a piezoelectric deformable mirror.

-            Obtained funding from NASA Code R Enabling Technology Program to develop piezoelectric microvalves and successfully delivered the microvalves for the microspacecraft test bed.

-            Received a number of awards including the Lew Allen Award for Excellence in recognition for his excellence in advancing the use of Micro Electro Mechanical Systems-based actuators for space applications. The Lew Allen Award for Excellence is a prestigious award given to 3~4 scientists among over 3500 Ph.D scientists and engineers at JPL.

-            Participated in the technical evaluation of MEMS mirror array technologies being developed for the Multi Object Spectrometer (MOS) project for the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)

-            NASA ICB Space Act Award (2005), NASA JPL

-            Level C Award (2003), NASA JPL

-            NASA ICB Space Act Award (2003), NASA JPL

-            Level B Bonus Award (2001), NASA JPL

-            Received 29 Class 1 NASA Tech Brief Awards (2001-2008)

-            Research Advisor for National Research Council (NRC).

-            Technical Monitor of NASA SBIR projects.
