Abstract

This paper reviews techniques to include the bending behavior of sheet metals into FEM formulations. A new, numerically efficient bending correction for the implementation into axisymmetric membrane elements is developed. This bending correction is based on a number of simplifying assumptions. The accuracy of the implementation is demonstrated by analyzing two round-cup drawings for which experimental measurements were available from the literature. The range of applicability of the proposed approach is discussed.
