Abstract

This paper reviews the evolution of the main techniques for analyzing the phenomena of diffuse and localized necking, ductile fracture as well as flange and wall wrinkling as some of the typical failure modes in sheet metal forming. Some of the advantages and weaknesses of these approaches for failure detection and prediction are pointed out and the suitability for their usage in sheet metal analysis programs is commented on. Special emphasis is placed on those phenomena found in round deep drawing and stretch drawing operations.
