Course Objectives:

  • Develop the ability to create rhythmic and harmonic structures that extend beyond those found in common period triadic harmony.
  • Develop analytical ability to interpret the implementaion of 20th and 21st century techniques of music theory
  • Demonstrate clear understanding of non triadic voice leading. 
  • Apply non triadic voice leading. to written work. 
  • Apply 20th and 21st century techniques of music theory to written work.

Course Grading:

  • Homework 40%. (Pdf and mp3s Must be completed and submitted on time via email hmu415@gmail.com)
  • Quiz 1 10%
  • Midterm Composition 25%
  • Final Composition 25%
